Ralf has 25 years of media experience. He has a bachelor's degree in Journalism and has worked for major metropolitan newspapers and newspaper chains such as the Chicago Sun-Times, Gannett/USA Today, and Media General. He has worked in newspaper advertising, marketing, news reporting, editorial writing and copyediting. He also was the president and owner of a direct mail advertising business. In 2000, as editor of the Daily Southerner in Tarboro, N.C., he received the prestigious North Carolina Press Association’s Public Service Award for providing outstanding news coverage and vital information services to the community during the difficult crisis and flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd in September 1999. He has been published in Editor and Publisher and is the author and editor of the book, “Hurricane Floyd and the Flood of the Century.” In 2005, he successfully wrote a $500,000 grant proposal awarded by the Kate B. Reynolds Foundation for the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission and its capital campaign. He has a post-baccalaureate certificate in Nonprofit Management from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. His coursework included strategic planning, financial management, grant writing, fundraising, marketing, media relations, non-profit law, and community development.
